材料科学与工程博士后流动站依托材料科学与工程一级学科博士点于2009年设立，其中材料学、材料科学与工程分别于1998年、2010年获博士学位授予权。材料学是国家重点（培育）学科，材料科学与工程是湖北省重点学科、首批楚天学者授聘学科、湖北省国内一流建设学科、湖北省属高校一流学科重点建设学科。材料科学学科ESI排名进入世界前0.30%。建有省部共建耐火材料与冶金国家重点实验室、高温材料与炉衬技术国家地方联合工程研究中心、高性能钢铁材料及其应用省部共建协同创新中心、海洋工程用钢及应用性能学科创新引智基地等科研机构。
材料科学与工程学科拥有一支学历层次高、理论基础扎实、学术思想活跃、富有创新精神的科研队伍，其中，博士生导师48人，国家、湖北省重要人才计划6人，国家有突出贡献的专家2人，湖北省有突出贡献的中青年专家3人，宝钢优秀教师奖4人。同时还聘请了一批国内外知名学者担任客座教授。
流动站以冶金行业为背景，面向学科国际前沿和国家重大需求，服务国家和区域社会经济发展，围绕提升行业可持续发展的共性基础理论与重大、关键技术问题，凝练学科方向。主要研究方向有“绿色功能型耐火材料”、“先进钢铁材料”、“高温磁电功能材料”、“新能源材料与储能技术”。在耐火材料、钢铁材料、金属材料加工成型等研究方向上优势明显、特色突出，先后获得国家科技奖10项。近五年主持承担国家级、省部级和地方政府各类纵向项目280余项，其中主持国家重点研发计划项目3项，国家自然科学基金重点项目9项，承担企业横向合作项目近600项，获得省部级一等奖9项。
流动站十分注重开展合作与交流，近五年主办或承办国际性会议15次、全国性学术会议5次以及地方性学术会议2次，与美国、英国、德国、法国、奥地利、加拿大、澳大利亚、日本、韩国、巴西、俄罗斯、印度、中国香港、中国澳门等国内外高校、研究机构及企业有着长期的科研合作和交流，是世界耐火材料教育与研究联盟国内唯一成员单位和欧亚-太平洋大学联盟成员；与宝武集团、鞍钢集团、中国一冶、中冶南方等建立良好合作关系，与湖北、江苏、山东、浙江等地方政府开展战略合作，取得了良好的社会声誉。
Wuhan University of Science and Technology Postdoctoral research station of materials science and engineering
The postdoctoral research station of materials science and engineering was established in 2009, based on Doctoral Degree Program of Materials Science and Engineering, the doctoral program of Materials Science and Materials Science and Engineering were approved in 1998 and 2010, respectively. The discipline of Materials Science is one of the key state-level (breading) disciplines. The discipline of Materials Science and Engineering is the key discipline of Hubei province, the first group discipline of Hubei province awarded with “Chutian Scholars”, and the national “First Class” discipline of Hubei province, as well as the key construction disciplines of “First Class” discipline of Hubei province.
The discipline of Materials Science has been listed in Top 0.3% in ESI discipline ranking. Several scientific research institutions, including State Key Laboratory of Refractories and Metallurgy, National-provincial Joint Engineering Research Center of High Temperature Materials and Lining Technology, Collaborative Innovation Center of High-performance Steel & Iron Materials and Application, Base of Overseas Expertise Introduction have been established based on the discipline of Materials Science and Engineering.
A research team with high academic degrees, strong theoretical basis, active academic thoughts and innovation spirit has been built in the discipline of materials science. The team is composed of well-known scholars and researchers including 48 doctoral supervisors, 6 national and provincial talents, 2 State-certified Experts with Outstanding Contributions, 3 Province-certified Experts of Middle and Young Ages with Outstanding Contributions, 4 Excellent teachers awarded by Bao Steel Company Education Fund. In addition, numerous famous domestic and overseas scholars were distinguished as guest professors.
The main research directions of the station have been refined as the following ones including green functional refractory materials, advanced steel materials, high temperature magnetic-electronic materials and materials for new energy and energy storage, based on the metallurgical industry and focused on the international development frontier and national major demands. The aim of the station is to service the national and regional social economic development, solve the common basic theory and key technologies which may promote the sustainable development of industry.
The station has obvious advantages and prominent features in the three research directions of refractories, steel materials, metal materials processing and forming and has received 10 national awards and 9 provincial grade 1 awards for science and technology. In recent 5 years, the station has undertaken over 280 national, provincial projects including 3 National key Research and Development projects, 9 Key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as 360 corporate projects supported by industrial enterprise.
The station has paid much attention on the collaboration and academic exchange. It has organized 15 international and 5 domestic academic conferences in the past 5 years. Stable and long-term research collaboration and academic exchange has been established with renowned universities, research institutions and corporations of foreign countries including USA, UK, Germany, Austria, France, Canada, Australia, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Russia, and India. The station is the only Chinese member in Federation for International Refractory Research and Education, and the member of Eurasia Pacific University Union. Moreover, the station has close relationship with Baowu Group, An Steel, and MCC Group, etc. It also carried out strategic cooperation with Hubei, Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang government, and received good social reputation.
